I am glad that I did, as I enjoy your focus on explaining what is known versus what is speculation regarding human metabolism and nutrition.

I have recently become fascinated (mildly obsessed) about the link between diet and health. Most of the information I have been able to obtain is from blog posts and Taubes' "Good Calories, Bad Calories". However, I would like to have a much better understanding of the underlaying science. Can you recommend some text books and papers?

Thanks. Please keep posting. You have a great talent for writing clearly about complex phenomena.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7721098568390636553.post-49051933115053269872008-06-08T06:47:00.000-07:002008-06-08T06:47:00.000-07:00Thanks for the kind words Willie. No doubt patients...Thanks for the kind words Willie.

No doubt patients suffer cognitive dissonance just as much as doctors. Most patients (and doctors) sincerely believe their doctor is helping them, the endpoint of a great rational scientific machine. Unfortunately, the machine is rather inefficient, as we saw with aether theory. But as you point out, the aether theory never adversely affected anyone's health, but current medical dogma does. It is up to us as patients make sure we get as much information as possible, since we're the ones most affected by health decisions.Davehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/18290594860469294453noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7721098568390636553.post-86402887263177515412008-06-08T01:25:00.000-07:002008-06-08T01:25:00.000-07:00What a beaufully articulated post this is! Thank ...What a beaufully articulated post this is! Thank you.

I was trying to discuss this issue with my little sis who takes Lipitor because, "my doctor says it unclogs my arteries." Yep.

While you're neither discussing Lipitor nor arterial unclogging, you are clearly exposing some of what passes for "science" and "thinking" in the world of health and nutrition. It's just as bad in many other fields, of course, but I doubt that a lot of people died from the theory of "luminiferous aether." I believe that current nutritional dogma is killing people. I'm always glad to find a really find mind in agreement. Thank you.AuntWiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10962976994452566271noreply@blogger.com
